I wanted to apologize for the dearth in updates! This go-around it wasn’t a lack of submissions, but a lack of time, on my part. It’s my last semester in college and things are a little hectic. I will be updating with a new story momentarily and will try to be more consistent in the future. Thank you all your patience.

As always, games are great.

You are great.

Submissions are slowin’

If my updates seem infrequent, it’s probably because they are. At the very least, they have become more sporadic recently. I’m still working through some submissions, but the well has been running dry.

I state this only as a context in which to say that I have no intention of forcing this website, or participation in this website, onto anyone. This should be a space in which individuals feel comfortable to submit what they will, within whatever timeframe is best suited to them.

For this reason, I am comfortable with letting this iteration of this project fade away into the mist, as it were, if that is its organic evolution. I by no means would prefer this outcome - I love reading the stories you all submit, and I love sharing them with others. But I don’t like the idea of forcing contribution, because then the purpose of this blog becomes skewed and perverted.

That being said, I absolutely, as always, encourage submissions of any form. I have yet to receive any emails with comics, videos, etc., and it would be great to see some, if only, selfishly, because I love fan-generated art.

This is in no way a “the site is shutting down” post or a “please God give me a story” post. Just a “I wanted everyone to know why there have been less posts recently” post.

That’s all.

Games are great.

You are great.

Writing ain’t your thing? Still want to submit?

Hey friends/followers of HGSML!

I was thinking about it and I realized that, as the website currently stands, it is a bit restrictive. Not everyone is comfortable typing out a 700-word testimony for a sub-section of the internet to read.

Therefore! I would like to open submissions up to any form of expression - an audio piece, a drawing, a comic, a video diary, an interpretive video, etc. Hopefully this will be engaging for those who may have wanted to share a story, but found the idea of writing one out daunting.

These are my criteria. You will retain ownership of all your submissions so don’t worry about that.

If you are submitting audio: Try and keep it below 15 minutes and be fluid in your storytelling. By ‘fluid’ I just mean that you stay on topic and that it isn’t filled with a lot of silences or pauses. Make sure to include a title and an accompanying image!

If you are submitting an image: Provide a title for your piece, and a brief description/contextualization. A description is not necessary if it is a comic, since I assume the context will be provided in the content.

If you are submitting a video piece: Upload your video to vimeo, youtube, or some other site that streams video, and provide me the link to your upload. Your video should be 8-15 minutes max and have a title.

If you have another type of submission that you want to send to me, great! Just shoot me an email first detailing what it is so I can give you some loose guidelines before you submit.

Keep in mind that HGSML is meant to be a safe space for anyone of any background to submit their stories and have them read without judgment. As such, if your submission is denigrating (this includes stuff like calling a woman a bitch) or needlessly offensive, it will not be published.

Games are great.

You are great.
