Submissions

If you would like to submit to How Games Saved My Life, the criteria for different types of submissions are outlined below. You will retain ownership of anything you choose to submit. All submissions should be sent to gamessavedmylife@gmail.com, include a title, and a link to any personal blog/site/etc. that you would like me to credit.  Depending on the volume of submissions, it is possible that not all submissions will be included.

If you are submitting a written piece: Please try to keep your piece between 700-800 words. Be aware that, although I’ll never take creative liberties with your text, I may edit it for spelling, grammar and length.

If you are submitting audio: Try and keep it below 15 minutes and be fluid in your storytelling. By ‘fluid’ I just mean that you stay on topic and that it isn’t filled with a lot of silences or pauses. Make sure to include a title and an accompanying image!

If you are submitting an image: Provide a title for your piece, and a brief description/contextualization. A description is not necessary if it is a comic, since I assume the context will be provided in the content.

If you are submitting a video piece: Upload your video to vimeoyoutube, or some other site that streams video, and provide me the link to your upload. Your video should be 8-15 minutes max and have a title.

If you have another type of submission that you want to send to me, great! Just shoot me an email first detailing what it is so I can give you some loose guidelines before you submit.

Keep in mind that HGSML is meant to be a safe space for anyone of any background to submit their stories and have them read without judgment. As such, if your submission is denigrating (this includes stuff like calling a woman a bitch) or needlessly offensive, it will not be published.

HGSML does not pass judgment on any testimony, and regardless of content, all entries have merit if they have genuinely affected the writer in a positive fashion.

Thank you for sharing your stories!
